Last week I got a new client suffering from Bell Palsy (not my first case though). She has facial paralysis on the left side, difficulty in talking and eating as half of her tongue felt numb. She also experienced twitching of her left eyelid and difficulty in fully closing her left eye. This all happened two days after her ear infection two months ago. Her doctor prescribed steroids for her facial paralysis. After a few rounds of acupuncture and physio, there was little improvement.
Today she came in for her second session. I asked her what changes she felt after her first session. She reported that her facial paralysis is less lopsided. It is only visible when she smiles. The numbness on her tongue is gone which makes eating and swallowing much easier. She feels more relaxed. The eye twitching and blinking is much less and she can fully closed her eye.
What is Bell Palsy
Bell's palsy is a form of facial paralysis resulting from a dysfunction of the cranial nerve VII (the facial nerve) causing an inability to control facial muscles on the affected side. Often the eye in the affected side cannot be closed.
